Joy is one of the recurring characters in Sex Education. She was born during the penultimate episode of the third season. She is the newborn daughter of Jean Milburn and Dan as well as Otis' younger half-sister.
In episode 3.8, when Jean opens the paternity test report, she is shocked, implying that Jakob is not the biological father of Joy.

Joy is often cared by her maternal aunt, Joanna, who recently moved in with them. In season 4 finale, Dan finally finds out that he's the biological father of Joy.

Jean Milburn (mother)[]
After Joy's birth, Jean started having postnatal depression, which had terrible consequences, as this time Jean didn't enjoy being a single parent. She also started being very disorganized and absent. Luckily, thanks to Otis and Joanna's help, Jean managed to find happiness again and started working on herself for her children.
Dan (father)[]
Despite being the father of Joy, Dan found out about it a couple of months after Joy was born.
Otis Milburn (older half-brother)[]
After Joy was born, Otis was doing his best to help his mother with Joy. He also loves Joy so much as he often carries her around and is worried about her.
Joanna Franklin (maternal aunt)[]
Joanna moves to the Milburn house to help her sister out with taking care of Joy. She spends a lot of her time by playing with her, and she seems to be enjoying it.

Trivia[]
- Joy is named by Ola.
- Jakob suggested naming Joy "Thor" if she turned out to be a boy. Jean thought the idea was silly, but Jakob explains that it's the name of his father. Later, after Joy's birth, Jean says that she actually thinks that the name Thor isn't that bad. In the end they decide to name her Joy.
