Florence Simmons is one of the recurring characters in Sex Education. She is portrayed by Mirren Mack.
Throughout the Series[]
Season 2[]
She takes part in the school play by taking the role of Juliet in the remake version of "Romeo and Juliet", written by Lily, and therefore shares the spotlight with Jackson who plays Romeo. She is initially dissatisfied with her work with Jackson, especially since her friends pressure her into having sex with him. Feeling no interest in sex, Florence initially seeks advice from Otis, but finds his answers lacking and thus goes to see his mother Jean, which helps her understand that she is asexual, though not aromantic.
During the school play, she is upset when Adam interrupts the show looking for Eric, stating that he is "ruining her moment". Later, she counters Michael's accusation that Jean corrupted the Moordale Secondary School students by claiming that Jean helped her accept herself.
Relationships[]
Romances[]
Jackson Marchetti (kissed; friend)[]
Jackson is a boy Florence was playing Romeo & Juliet with during the school musical. At the beginning, their relationship was a bit tense, as Florence was accusing Jackson of treating the whole musical thing as a joke and that he didn't treat it seriously. They also had troubles with having scenes together, as they weren't showing any emotions while acting together, which was annoying Lily. Florence and her friends also perceived Jackson as a typical asshole, who sleeps with every girl. Florence's friends also encouraged her to hook up with Jackson, as she hasn't had sex yet. Thanks to that, Florence finds out that she's asexual.
Personality[]
Florence is a girl who is confident about her acting skills, declaring herself the best actress in their school, which is proved by being selected as the lead female role at the school play, taking the role of Juliet in the remake version of "Romeo and Juliet", written by Lily. She has no stage fright and seems to know how to improvise as seen in Episode 8. Florence is asexual.
