Aptitude Scheme was a scheme for gifted students to plan their future and optimise their opportunities. Several students in this scheme were on the Quiz Heads team. Maeve was invited to join this scheme by Miss Sands.

History[]

In Maeve's first Aptitude Scheme class, students were asked to read their essay about where they see themselves in 10 years. Their visions of the future included:

  • Viv - being accepted into an Oxbridge university due to her extra-curricular activities
  • Steve - competing in the IFBB Bodybuilding Championships
  • Dex - being on track to becoming prime minister of the UK at the age of 30
  • Ola - landing an Erasmus scholarship to NYU Film and Television School and make investigative documentaries
  • Lily - writing The Chronicles of Glenoxi, an epic alien love comic book series, which will be made into a global franchise and eventually be screened in space

Maeve was unaware that the essay was to be read out during class, so she pretended that she left her essay at home due to being embarrassed about her dreams. Maeve later gives Ms. Sands her essay. In her essay, Maeve writes that her dreams are to live in a house with big windows that is large enough to fit a kitchen table with 4 chairs, but not too roomy so that she feels the depth of her aloneness. Maeve doesn't think she belongs in the aptitude scheme, but Ms. Sands convinces her to stay and assures Maeve that she can have more expansive dreams than just big windows and 4 chairs.
